you have to live your life...
In Climbing Robin can find inner peace and satisfaction which he missed with competition swimming before: "Climbing has been something like a turning point in my life. I like it when I can climb in a not too crowdy area so i can totally set my mind free and just do my thing.
The movements and background of the routes are pretty important for me. I like to climb "oldschool" routes which require a lot of technique. The cool thing about routes which are hard to figure out is the satisfaction you get from it when you find a solution for it. The more complex the moves are, the better is my opinion. in the beginning struggling with all these frustrations because you just don't seem to get it and in the end the feeling of ending a seemingly endless puzzle. I found out last year that climbing is very depending on the state of your mind. It's very hard to really believe in yourself when you try things which seems incredibly hard.
I've worked a lot to understand this part of climbing and how my mind works and reactes when I'm climbing. I found out Güllich was right when he said "the most important muscle in climbing is the brain". When I climb a route is the only moment I really feel good, it gives a certain peace in my mind which I haven't found elsewhere. It's just me and the rock on those moments, all the rest doesn't matter anymore. Climbing at the limit (redpoint and onsight) is for me the coolest and purest thing about climbing since this requires the maximum of concentration, technique and precision.
This is depending from day to day offcourse. Sometimes it is much more fun to "cruise" through easier routes! I've so many goals for the future, I've got a lot of cool hard lines here in Belgium I want to do. I hope i will be able to climb all year long someday!"
